Gregory Porter’s Take Me to the Alley was released on May 6 and is currently the #1 Jazz Album on Apple Music in dozens of countries across six continents including the U.S., U.K., Japan, Canada, Germany, France, Australia, Switzerland, Italy, Brazil, The Netherlands, Mexico, Belgium, Spain, South Africa, Austria, Norway, Denmark, New Zealand, Russia, Sweden, Ireland and Hong Kong. Apple Music is currently featuring exclusive live videos of Porter performing “Holding On” and “Take Me to the Alley” at the famed Capitol Studios, in addition to specially curated playlists by Gregory including Memories of Mom, Gregory’s Essential Nate King Cole, Praise & Positivity, and Relaxing on the Road.
In Nate Chinen's profile of Porter in The New York Times, he writes: "A powerful voice used to soothing effect: It’s an approach with special resonance for Mr. Porter as he rolls out his fourth album, Take Me to the Alley... It features a dozen original songs with grown-up themes: social conscience, filial devotion, the solicitous work that helps sustain a lasting romance. It’s an assured, unflashy follow-up to Liquid Spirit, which won the 2014 Grammy Award for best jazz vocal album and has sold nearly a million copies worldwide. With its deep confluence of jazz, gospel and soul, it’s a reassertion of core values."
Watch Porter’s thoughtful interview with Tavis Smiley and his stunning performance of “Take Me to the Alley” which aired on PBS last week. Watch the official video for “Don’t Lose Your Steam,” and hear Gregory’s version of “Holding On” which finds Porter presenting his decidedly different version of the Disclosure single that he was the featured vocalist on and co-wrote for their album Caracal.
Porter has been announced as part of the 2016 line-up at Celebrate Brooklyn in Prospect Park where he’ll be giving a free concert on July 28. Porter will also be returning to the Monterey Jazz Festival on September 18, and making his debut appearance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival which takes place September 30-October 2 and October 7-9. Additional festival appearances this season include Atlanta, Aspen, Toronto, Montreal, Newport and more. Porter will be performing in Nashville, Washington DC, Chicago, Portland, Seattle and Oakland next month. An exclusive ticket/album bundle is available for select U.S. dates.
