Biography
Italian DJ and producer Nicola Conte became famous with his loungey brand of jazz that relies extensively on bossa nova, but is also heavily influenced by the swinging soundtracks of Italian films in the '60s and '70s, plus touches of ethnic music and kitsch.Being part of the loose-knit ‘Fez collective’, centred in the Italian town of Bari, Conte did not only mastermind the Schema label, but also his own recording career, scoring an underground hit with first single "Bossa Per Due". Conte's critically acclaimed debut album Jet Sounds was followed by the remix album Jet Sounds Revisited in 2002 and two years later Conte debuted on Blue Note with Other Directions. Following his third studio album Rituals on Universal he satisfied his love for and dedication to Brazilian music compiling Viagem and Viagem 2 on Far Out in 2008 & 2009. In 2011 Nicola released the third part of the collection Viagem 3 next to his studio album Love & Revolution which has been released on the legendary Impulse Label and features a vast number of amazing and internationally known artists such as Jose James, Gregory Porter, Till Brönner and Magnus Lindgren.Meanwhile Viagem 5 has been released, also lots of Remix works - and his new studio album Free Souls came out on Schema Records.

End of May 2014 his new album Free Souls is released in Europe & the world on Schema Records. It is a lovely collection of some of his unreleased tracks from last years developed into 2014 sounds and experiences and you can't believe what he found in his basket! Great tracks from his recordings with Jose James, Till Broenner, Magnus Lindgren and others as well as one song with Gregory Porters lyrics now nicely done by the new talented singer Marvin Parks from NY! Nicola Conte has played shows with his legendary Combo in famous Jazz Clubs around the globe - such as regular at Ronnie Scott's in London or Blue Note Milan, New York or Tokyo.
Nicola Conte recently produced a couple of remixes such as for Till Broenner’s new album track “Will of Nature” as well as does some production for the Italian singer Chiara Civello for Sony Music as composer and creative producer. Right in time for this year’s soccer world championship his 5th compilation Far Out Recordings is released: VIAGEM 5, his compilation of rare Brazil tracks.
