Colours marks a serious shift in direction from the band’s first album Daylight (previously Jazz FM
‘Album of The Week’). From beginnings steeped in jazz/ funk, The Doggett Brothers have evolved
and embraced their passion for all things that groove on this, their second outing.
Make no mistake; whilst this album sits well and truly in the pocket, the brothers have placed
strong emphasis on the vocal hooks and stories that have influenced both them and the album.
“We wanted to create an album that displayed our infatuation and love for soul, with real song
writing and beautiful performances. An album that was recorded the right way, with the right
players”.
“We’ve harnessed our experience and influences, and have taken it into the studio to create
Colours. We wanted to record an album which brought the listener into the studio with us, to
experience every synth sparkle, snare crack and soaring vocal”.
The album tears into action with ‘You Make Me Feel’, a heavily 80’s infused pocket groove
featuring the commanding vocals of Kenny Thomas. Track 2 ‘Lover’ falls in line next, with the band
sitting tightly behind the stunning vocal of Laura Jackson.
‘You and I’ is a catchy, midtempo groover which introduces the sheer class vocals of up and
coming UK soul man, Stacy Stuart. Stacy stays with you into ‘Fill My Cup’, a feel good, up tempo
boogie track, guaranteed to get you moving.
Track 5 ‘Why’ is a heavily U.S influenced slice of U.S r & b. Laura Jackson’s richly harmonised vocals
integrating into the tight knit chords.
Track 6 ‘Outta Control’ drops in out of nowhere. With a skip and energy to the groove, this track
features fresh faced,
youthful and story telling vocal from Arnob Basit that will demand your
attention.
With a slight switch in mood, track 7 ‘Hotter’ will keep you captivated with a majestic & euphoric
vocal, again from Laura Jackson.
Giving the vocalists a well earned break, ‘2 am’ strips right back to just drums, keys and a solo
trumpet courtesy of guest Davie Howes (you’ll know his playing well if you’ve ever heard the track
‘Walk this Land’ from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells).
‘Two in My Life’, the ballad of the album, features a tender and gentle vocal of debutant, Dominic
Uppiah. “You could have cut the atmosphere with a knife in the studio the day the band cut that,
all of us set up and ready to play around the baby grand piano”, said Carl Doggett.
Laura Jackson makes a return to finish off the album with two stylish outings on title track
‘Colours’ and ‘Our Time’.
The album will be available on iTunes on 20 th May 2016 and via selected stores.
